About UsParkinson disease
Human studies on PD with CBD have been very positive but limited in duration. Major improvements were seen in mood, behavior, and some function but generally not physically in a very short six week course. In my clinical experience there has not been much change in the tremor. In PD specific types of brain cells, dopamine type, have been crippled or lost. Regenerating those has been difficult or impossible. Stem cell transplants have reported some improvements but that evidence is not clear. CBD will optimize brain function and may lead to the regeneration of the missing brain cells but there is no evidence. More importantly, I believe, that CBD will stop the process and progression of PD. As you know the disabilities are progressive and lead to death over many years. CBD likely stops that progression. |
Dosage recommendation: 15 mg of tincture or 5 pumps of liposomal twice a day is a good starting point. Adjust the dose to improve symptoms and make improvements in function to as much as 60 mg per day. Remember that CBD is going to be protective against further neurodegeneration. In some cases it can potentiate some of the other drugs that are used in Parkinson's disease. You should also realize that those drugs are only for symptomatic benefit and have not been shown to prevent progression. On the other hand CBD should prevent the progression of the condition. If dementia is present with Parkinson's reduce the dose by half.
Some of the standard PD drugs can have stronger effects while using CBD. My recommendation is to reduce those drugs if any side effects develop. CBD dose not have significant side effects. Unlike CBD none of the standard PD drugs protect against PD progression.
Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) is another natural plant substance found in many foods and spices like black pepper. It has been shown to have neuroprotective and recovery properties in PD preclinical studies. “BCP has been shown to confer neuroprotective activity, enhance cognition, and alleviate anxiety, depression, and compulsion“; Mol Cell Biochem, DOI 10.1007/s11010-016-2733-y. BCP is available from general internet sources in the form of BCP or copaiba oil. Recommended use is topically 80 mg to any skin surface twice daily in combination with CBD.
